54 g of ground coffee
Hot water (95° C)
Scale
Timer
Mug
Stirrer
RECOMMENDED COFFEE
STEP 1: HEAT FRENCH PRESS
Prepare your french press for brewing by removing the filter plunger and setting it aside nearby.

Pour 100 ml of hot (brew temperature) water into the French press and let sit in order to preheat.
STEP 2: WEIGH & GRIND
While your French press is preheating, weigh out 54 grams of coffee beans. You may adjust the amount later if you want to increase or decrease the strength and body of your brew.

Grind your coffee to a coarse grind size like bread crumbs.

Before you brew, make sure you dump out that preheating water. Place your ground coffee into the empty French press. Tap your brewer to level the coffee bed.
STEP 3: PRE-INFUSION
Start your brew by getting rid of all of the trapped carbon gasses in your coffee. Those gasses will make it harder to have an even extraction.

To do this, start your timer and, using your kettle, pour 350 ml of water into the French press.

Allow this to sit until the timer reaches 1:00. Then take your stirrer and stir the coffee slurry, breaking the crust.
STEP 4: POUR
Add the rest of your brew water, bringing your total amount of water to 860 ml.

Gently stir the slurry again to ensure that the water and coffee is well integrated, about three or four stirs.

Place the filter plunger onto your French press to prevent heat loss. Don’t press down the plunger quite yet.
STEP 5: FILTER AND SERVE
Once your timer reaches 4:00 minutes, firmly and gently push down on the plunger to filter your coffee.

Once your plunger has reached the bottom, decant coffee immediately from the French press to prevent over-extraction.

Serve and enjoy! Your French press will serve three to four people.
